We are going to be focusing here on certain electric appliances in your home where it is easiest to make changes to reduce your carbon footprint and fight global warming. These will be:
-Washing Machines
-Dishwashers
-Fridges and Freezers
-Room Air Conditioning
Looking at these appliances in your own home will let you cut your carbon emissions, a key in the fight against global warming. We will cover everything from changes to your day to day routine that uses these appliances to help save energy quickly and cheaply, to what you should look for if you are buying new appliances.
The general rule for buying appliances if you want to limit your carbon footprint and help stop global warming is to buy Energy Star certified products. Energy Star certification is provided by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and guarantees that the appliance meets the strictest standards for energy use, and in turn for carbon emissions related to using that appliance. In each section of the above appliances, we will go into more detail of what to look for to get the appliance that will meet your needs and reduce your carbon footprint.
The general rule for using appliances to help cut your carbon emissions is pretty obvious – use the appliance less! But in each section we’ll include some tips and tricks on practical ways to actually do this to help you cut your carbon footprint and fight global warming.
