Consumers Happy to Pay Premium for Hybrid Cars

Have you noticed that everyone around is talking about hybrid cars lately? Does it seem like people want cut their carbon footprint from driving in the wake of high gas prices? This trend is not just between you and your friends. A new report by J.D. Power Associates shows a high interest in purchasing hybrid vehicles to help fight global warming.
The study asked consumers if they were interested in buying a hybrid. Turns out that an amazing 72% of respondents are 'definitely' or 'probably' interested in having hybrid technology in their next car. This figure is a rise from 58% when the same question was asked in 2005. However, after the price premium of $5000 was revealed, only 48% were still interested.
This change in consumer attitudes is great news for global warming as people become more conscious of the impacts of their own carbon footprint and seek ways to reduce it.
Earlier this week a financial analyst presented information that showed the lifetime cost of a hybrid is less than a non-hybrid, even after the $5000 price premium, as long as gas prices were above $3.18 per gallon, a level that people would be happy to see today!
The report also found that people do not show much interested in clean-diesel technology as a way to cut their carbon footprint. Most consumers still have a negative image of diesel.
