Volkswagen Announces Super Efficient Car for 2010

Volkswagen has announced that they will produce a limited number of their super fuel efficient 1 liter car in 2010. The model has been around as a prototype since 2002, but this will be the first time it is publicly available to those who want to drastically cut their carbon footprint from driving and do their part to fight global warming.

Testing of the prototype has shown that the vehicle will get an amazing fuel efficiency of 282 mpg! Compared to even the best mass market cars today, that is a huge improvement and will mean a big drop in the carbon footprint of the lucky drivers.

Although it hasn’t been announced, the supply is expected to be in the thousands of cars. The car itself will weigh only 660 pounds with a light body made from carbon composites. While the prototype model had a 1 cylinder engine, the production model is expected to have a 2 liter diesel engine. As well, the car may include start-stop technology to reduce fuel use while idling and further decrease your carbon footprint.

VW has also not yet announced a price for the limited edition, but it is expected to be between $30,000 and $50,000. This may seem expensive, but if oil prices keep going up it could be a bargain.

VW is working hard to polish their image as a green company and has recently made several announcements that will help drivers cut their carbon footprint.
