Wal-Mart Bringing out Eco-Jewelry

Wal Mart is teaming up with Newmont Mining to offer the Earth, Love jewelry line to provide customers with a more environmentally friendly product. Customers will be able to trace the silver and gold in the jewelry from mine to market.
Wal Mart is the single largest retailer of jewelry in the world. The company has developed a set of Responsible Mining criteria, which covers, among other things, minimum standards for environmental impact. All the items in the Earth, Love line will meet this standard. Wal Mart is hoping that at least 10% of the jewelry they sell will meet this standard by 2010.
Wal Mart said that Newmont was chosen as the partner due to their strong environmental record. Newmont is the only gold mining company in the world to be included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index-World.
