A new bill is being introduced in the Senate this will provide subsidies for putting solar panels on roofs across the country to help individuals and businesses cut their carbon footprint. The bill is being introduced by Senator Bernie Sanders, an Independent from Vermont.
The bill is being called 10 Million Solar Roofs Act of 2008, clearly displaying the goal of getting solar panels on at least 10 millions roofs in the country. That would be a big step towards helping people reduce their carbon footprint and fight global warming.
The bill would offer rebates for up to half the cost of installation and will last for 10 years. The rebates will be available for personal homes, businesses, non profits, and government buildings. The city of San Francisco recently introduced their own incentives to get solar panels on roofs, but the nation wide move should have a much bigger impact on cutting the nation’s carbon footprint and set a positive example to other countries on tackling global warming.
If this bill is passed by the senate, it would be sending mixed signals after it recently shot down a bill that would provide incentives for renewable energy.
The bill is being co-sponsored by a handful of other senators coming from both parties.
