A New Green Wiki
For all of us who have wanted to know the carbon footprint of a product before we buy it, without having to trust what the manufacturer tells us, Greener One may be our answer.
Now in its beta-testing phase, Greener One is a site that will cover the environmental impacts of different products from your new shoes and shirts, to your computer and car. The site is structure as an online wiki, where consumers input information, similar to Wikipedia. This will save the readers from getting the brainwashing versions put out by the manufacturers.
To help consumers find information on existing and new products, the site will have contacts and tools to help reach the manufacturers and trade bodies to determine how green a product is.
Many manufacturers can improve their green image by only looking at the carbon emissions of their own operations, and ignoring the rest of the supply chain. The hope is that diligent readers will get all the details on what actually goes into making a product so that you can get the most accurate depiction of your carbon footprint.
Greener One CEO, Zoli Piroska, hopes that one day all products will come stamped with their green rating making it even easier for consumers to make green choices to cut their carbon footprint. Until we get to that point, being able to find the information easily online is a good start.
